" Allows one both to fit in and yet stand out within a group, the purpose of which is to be different from the accepted norm, or to not fit in "

As a Japanese artist with a Western education, I have a unique perspective that enables me to disguise my Western understanding with Japanese iconography.

The colour choices are influenced by Japanese aesthetics but the use of Western methods and graphics allow the work to be both foreign and indigenous simultaneously.

Both cultures collide to create a harmonious disharmony, with widely varied readings, depending on where in the world they are being viewed.

There is acceptance and alienation, works that both " fit in and yet stand out. "
