Working within notions of memory and nostalgia, I am interested in how we incorporate the past into the present. Surrounding ourselves with objects and photographs that stand as icons of a time passed, and constructing our very lives within such narratives of this past.
I am drawn to the way in which we tend to perceive the past as a better place, constructing the present moment around an ideal and subsequently allowing for the idealization of our memories.
The relationship between the subject and their environment, the collecting of objects which subscribe to some personally emotive significance, and the talismanic quality inherent in such, that compels you to ponder the stories behind the façade.
And the subsequent suggestion of symmetry, of reflections between such notions and their opposites: past and present, tangible and intangible, person and object, presence and absence, constructed and not.
