Working in photography, I explore and document spaces in their moment of transition. This moment comes at a time when a public space such as an art gallery becomes a private, privileged one; when the space is no longer open for public viewing; when the entry into such a space requires permission. In this instance, permission has been granted to me and in turn the viewer, for there is no human life in the images.

Absent of people and devoid of hanging artwork, I capture the space in a time of stillness. A time when the space still contains elements which define it as a gallery and creative space but one in which the walls are bare, in which the façade is about to be re-written. Although there is an absence or people, activity and artwork, the spaces are far from empty. Perhaps the curator has popped out for a coffee to return later to finish taking down the current exhibition or installing the next one.

My large scale photographs serve to over-write, to replace the artwork in the images that are leaning against walls, pushed to the side or missing altogether.
